SAP ECC (Enterprise Central Component)

This is the previous version used by large companies, and SAP will continue to provide support until December 31, 2025. Consequently, companies currently utilizing an ECC version must make a crucial decision: either migrate to S/4HANA or explore alternative ERP providers.

It boasts extensive administrative functionality and provides integrated commercial solutions for comprehensive company management, facilitating real-time administration.

SAP Business Suite is a collection of applications tailored for the business world, enabling companies to manage sales processes, finances, banking operations, purchases, inventory, accounting, clients, marketing, and more. Within the Business Suite, all applications are compatible and interconnected. They operate based on a unified front-end access called NetWeaver, an integration platform that reduces overall IT infrastructure costs and supports SAP's evolution towards a service-oriented architecture.

The SAP Business Suite comprises five main applications:

- SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) -> Formerly known as R/3 in the previous SAP version, it serves as the central component of the system.

- SAP CRM (Customer Relationship Management) -> Used for managing all client relations.

- SAP PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) -> Handles the management of project lifecycles.

- SAP SCM (Supply Chain Management) -> Enables the design, construction, and implementation of the supply chain.

- SAP SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) -> Manages all aspects of supplier relationships.

Delving into SAP ERP:

SAP ERP is designed to be composed of functional areas or modules that are integrated in real-time. These modules fall into four broad areas:

- Logistic Modules: SD (Sales and Distribution), MM (Materials Management), PP (Production Planning), QM (Quality Management), PM (Plan Maintenance)

- Finance Modules: FI (Financial Accounting), CO (Controlling), AM (Fixed Assets Management), PS (Project System)

- HR Modules: HR (Human Resources)

- Multiapps Modules: IS (Industry Solutions), WF (Workflow)

Some important modules:

  • Sales and Delivery - SD: Responsible for managing client relations from pre-sales through sales, coordination with MM, planning and delivery preparation, and the billing process and delivery. Submodules: Client and supplier master data, sales, delivery, billing, pricing, credit management.
  • Material Management - MM: Manages tasks related to the provisioning chain, including inventory procurement and management processes, material entry, and acquisition of goods and services. Submodules: Purchases, Inventories, Warehouses, Billing verification, Materials planning.

  • Financial Accounting - FI: Manages financial transactions within enterprises and is a complex module composed of submodules. Almost all SAP modules connect to FI for centralized financial information. Submodules: GL, AP, AR, TR, TX, AA
  • Controlling - CO: Documents financial processes in real-time, estimates production flows, and forecasts costs.
  • Asset Management - AM: Manages the entire lifecycle of physical assets in the organization, covering aspects such as design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of a plant.
  • Project System - PS: Specifically designed for project management and integrated with other functional areas of SAP.
  • Human Resources - HR/HCM: Manages all aspects of human capital, from recruitment and induction to payroll, feedback, training, and more.
